Aims :
This
course intends students to know the importance
that exchanges and transformations of energy have
in the development of the natural world and of
the human civilization. Moreover it will give
students some knowledge of primary energy resources
and of their conversion in secondary resources.
Topics
:
References
to general physics, applied thermodynamics and
processes of combustion. Energy sources and their
general traits. The Italian energy system, requirements
and consumptions. Combustion and fuels: synfuels,
calorific values of the different fuels, petroleum
refining. Nuclear energy source: general traits
of nuclear physics, nuclear fission, nuclear fuel,
nuclear reactors, nuclear plants (BWR, PWR, HTGR,
etc.). Renewable energy sources: wind energy,
sea energy and biogas. Fuel cells: thermodynamics
of fuel cells, different kinds of fuel cells (AFC,
PAFC, MCFC, SOFC, PEMFC, ecc.), applications of
fuel cells.
