Aims :
The aim of the present module is
to provide fundamental information on the most
relevant manufacturing processes used in the manufacturing
industry and on the approaches used in the definition
of the process parameters.
Topics :
Role of manufacturing processes
in the product life cycle.
Overwiew of manufacturing processes: casting,
metal forming and welding processes.
Material removal processes: overview of machining
technology, theory of chip formation in machining,
forces, energy and power relationships in machining,
cutting temperature, cutting fluids, tool geometry
(single point tool geometry and multiple cutting
edge tools), tool materials, tool wear and tool
life, machining operations (turning, milling,
drilling and related operations, shaping, planning,
broaching, grinding).
Nontraditional machining and thermal cutting processes:
mechanical energy processes, electrochemical machining
processes, thermal energy processes and chemical
machining processes.
