Aims :

 

The aim of the present module is to provide fundamental information on the most relevant manufacturing processes used in the manufacturing industry and on the approaches used in the definition of the process parameters.

 

Topics :

 

Role of manufacturing processes in the product life cycle.
Overwiew of manufacturing processes: casting, metal forming and welding processes.
Material removal processes: overview of machining technology, theory of chip formation in machining, forces, energy and power relationships in machining, cutting temperature, cutting fluids, tool geometry (single point tool geometry and multiple cutting edge tools), tool materials, tool wear and tool life, machining operations (turning, milling, drilling and related operations, shaping, planning, broaching, grinding).
Nontraditional machining and thermal cutting processes: mechanical energy processes, electrochemical machining processes, thermal energy processes and chemical machining processes.
