Aims :
To know the principles of operation
of single stage amplifiers. To be able to analyse
multistage amplifiers and amplifiers with feedback.
To be able to design single and multistage amplifiers
with transistors or operational amplifiers.
Topics :
Introduction. Non-linear circuit
analysis: linearization, DC analysis, AC analisys.
Elements of circuit theory: linear active and
passive components, voltage division and current
division, amplifier representations.
Non Linear Applications. The diode: DC characteristic,
picewise linear model, small-signal model. Zener
diode. Circuits with diodes: limiting and DC restoring
circuits, voltage doublers, rectifiers, peak holders.
Voltage regulator with zener diode. Design of
a regulated power supply.
BJT. Solid state electronics elements: insulators,
conductors and semiconductors. Band diagrams,
p-n junction, bipolar junction transistor. Single
stage amplifier with BJT: Common Emitter. Biasing
circuit, AC and DC behaviours. Common Emitter
with emitter resistance, Common Base and Common
Collector.
Current mirrors with BJT. Mirrors with emitter
resistances, Wilson's mirror, modifies Wilson's
mirror, cascode mirror.
MOSFET. Qualitative behaviour of MOSFET. Band
diagrams. i-v charactoristics. Biasing networks
and single stage amplifiers.
Frequency behaviour. Frequency behaviour of single
stage amplifiers and coscode analized with the
time constant method. Cascode biasing.
JFET. Input and output characteristics.
Multistage and differential amplifiers. Large
signal analysis. Small-signal analysis: differential
gain, common mode gain, CMRR. Differential amplifier
with active load. Multistage amplifiers.
Feedback. Negative feedback properties. The four
types of feedback: series-series, shunt-shunt,
series-shunt, shunt-series. The stability. Amplifier
compensation.
Operational amplifier. The ideal Op-Amp. Basic
circuits with the op-amp. Real op-amp. Frequency
behaviour.
Power stages. A, B, and AB power stages.
