Aims :
Educational
targets: Provide the students with the background
to understand the reliability problems in mechanical
design, the failure modes, the methods used to
calculate or improve the reliability of a mechanical
system.
Topics :
Design of bolted junctions according
to UNI 10011 standard: strength classes –
correct and wrong layouts – load analysis
– safety coefficients – friction based
junctions – verifications against surface
pressure and shear failure of metal sheets. Examples
and exercises.
Basic concepts about failure: fatigue, wearing,
random damage. Failure functions: Gauss normal
distribution – Weibull function –
exponential function. Reliability function. Failure
rate. MTBF.
Experimental data interpolation. Reliability of
used objects. Examples and exercises.
Reliability networks for complex mechanical systems
– calculation of the reliability of a system
composed by many parts. Safety coefficient choice,
according to probabilistic evaluations.
Methods to improve reliability: components selection,
tests, derating, redundancy.
FMEA e FMECA: examples of analysis for simple
working mechanical systems. Fault tree. Examples
and exercises.
