Aims :

 

The course is aimed to study heat transfer and fluid dynamics by means of engineering applications. Combined convection-conduction problems, jet flow and boiling heat transfer, heat exchanger fluid dynamics are some arguments discussed during the course.

 

Topics :

 

Internal Forced Convection - Heat transfer in tubes
- Heat transfer in bends and curvilinear conduits
Exercise: Conjugate heat transfer in underground fluid transport systems. Summary of sem-infinite and radial systems heat conduction.

External Forced Convection
- Flat plate and curved surface heat convection
- External flow on bluff bodies
- Finned surfaces convection heat transfer.
Exercise: Heat transfer in finned systems.

Jet Flow heat transfer
- Free Jets
- Confined Jets
- Spreading systems
Exercise: Diffusion systems for air conditioning equipments

Free Convection
- Free convection on a vertical surface.
- Free convection in enclosures and channels
Exercise: Heat transfer on an heat sink used in electronic equipments

Boiling and condensation heat transfer
- Pool boiling and forced convection boling
- Film condensation in horizontal tubes
- Heat transfer in Evaporators and Condensers.

Summary of compact heat exchanger analysis.
