Aims :

 

Students will learn to appraise the performances of an automated manufacturing system, modeled as a stochastic Discrete Event System: ( generalised ) Markov Process and Markov Chain,(Generalised) Stochastic Petri Nets ; ability in using simulation programs will be gained.

 

Topics :

 

performance criteria of Automated Manufacturing Systems;
fundamentals of Probability Theory; main probability distributions;
Stochastic variables and stochastic processes;
Markov processes and Markov Chains;
Timed Petri Nets, states, enabling and firing conditions of transitions,analysis methods,
Stochastic Timed Petri Nets, analysis methods, performance evaluation;
Generalysed Stochastic Petri Nets, some analysis methods,
Symulation programs;
Case studies

Exam :

 

The final summative evaluation will consist of the discussion of an essay.

 

Tutorial Session :

 

Students will be met face-to-face, usually, Monday afternoon, from 4 p.m. on, at the profesor bureau: e-mail requests will be answered in two days at the latest
