Aims :
The
aim of this course is to specify the fundamental
notions of primary energy resources and the way
to transform those in electrical energy. A part
of the course is dedied to the study of renewable
energies and to present the technology and the
workings of power plants.
Topics :
Fossil fuels: petroleum, coal and
gaseous fuels. Coal gasification: Hydrogen: production
and storage. Hydrogen for fuel cells. Fuel cells.
Geothermal energy and hydroelectric energy. Solar
energy. Solar energy: applications and availability
of solar energy. Photovoltaic effect. Solar energy
collectors. Wind energy: betz theory, plants and
developments. Energy from wastes and biomass.
Nuclear energy: innovative nuclear reactors and
safety: Nuclear fusion. Direct energy conversion:
thermoelectric devices and M.H.D.. Energy storage
of chemical, thermal and mechanical energy.
