Aims :
General
principles regarding modelling and numerical analysis
of some soil mechanics problems relative to embankment
construction. Calculations are performed using
both traditional methods and software packages
supplied with the course.
Topics :
Review of oil mechanics basics (classification,
strength and resistance, failure, stress-strain
behaviour, settlement calculation).
Embankments (design, stability and serviceability
checks, materials, placement procedures, monitoring).
Soil hydraulics (porous medium model, permeability,
seepage, consolidation, coupling).
Use of pc to assist analysis of geotechnics problems.
Numerical methods for solving typical geotechnics
problems and critical evaluation of results obtained.
The finite element method.
