Aims :

This course provides an understanding of the rules and principles of the operation and of the electrical and mechanical characteristics of electric motors. The main objective is to equip the students with the necessary knowledge for designing the control systems of electrical motors and for choosing and dimensioning the actuator systems in many industrial applications, including manufacturing, process control, and transportation.

Topics :

This course deals with the analysis and design of electric actuators. A background on the dc electrical motors is required. The analysis of the rules and principles of the operation of ac electrical motors and brushless motors is developed in order to present the more appropriate control schemes for these electric machines. The main topics are stated in the following. Park Transform. Equivalent models of synchronous and asynchronous ac electrical machines. Control systems for asynchronous ac electrical machines. Control systems for synchronous permanent magnetic machines. Static converter. Choice and dimensioning of inverter devises. Motion planning systems. Applications in NC systems. For all the items developed in classroom, different laboratories activities have been planned. Students are invited to develop a project on a topic of the course.
