Aims :
To
provide students with a cultural basis of architectural
restoration with particular reference to restoration
planning.
Topics :
The evolution of the idea of restoration.
Professional guidelines for restoration. The evolution
of building skeletons in masonry. Problems connected
with the restoration of modern architecture. The
mechanics of masonry. Masonry instabilities. Technical
evolution in the construction of roofing and wooden
flooring. The instabilities of wooden structures.
Analysis of the range of intervention techniques
for masonry and wooden structures. Analysis of
some types of finish in historical architecture
with particular reference to traditional plaster
and to cane ceilings. Seismic vulnerability of
buildings in masonry and assessment of the efficacy
of some intervention techniques.
The course includes a practical session for the
development of the architectural restoration project
of a building previously geometrically surveyed
(analysis of the instabilities, technological
analysis, historical analysis, intervention project).

Exam :
Sarà svolta una esercitazione
progettuale su oggetti edilizi già rilevati
geometricamente indirizzata prevalentemente alla
diagnosi dei dissesti e del degrado,al rilievo
critico e a quello tecnologico.
