Aims :
The Laboratory, run in connection
with the courses of History of Architecture I
and II and with the Laboratory of Technical Architecture,
aims to analyse the roots, identity, invariant
and innovations in the living space of different
historical-cultural and environmental situations.
Topics :
The Laboratory proposes the investigation of the
possibilities of dialogue between man, nature,
urban environment in the modern history of architecture.
Teaching activity consists in lectures and selected
workshops focused in the knowledge of the historical-geographical
environment assuming the family house as central
item, to investigate relationship between architecture,
climate, building techniques and the historical
development of the urban environment. Specific
attention will be on: distribution of functions,
spatial connections, technical solutions, use
of materials.
The laboratory workshops consist in the analysis
and interpretation of relevant case-studies in
‘modern’ architecture of the XX Century.
Focus will be on the work of some ‘masters
of modernity’ as Frank Lloyd Wright, Le
Corbusier, Alvar Aalto, Louis Kahn, Ralph Erkine,
Jorn Utzon, Arne Jacobsen, Giancarlo De Carlo
e Mario Ridolfi.
The result of the Laboratory will be organised
in a A3-size ‘portfolio’ which will
be the basis of the final discussion.
