Aims :

The course aims at illustrating the nature, use and workability of metals; particular emphasis will be given to heat treatment practice of ferrous metals.

Topics :

Structure of metals, mechanical testing, strengthening methods in metals, phase diagrams, Fe-C phase diagram, heat treatments, steels and cast iron, casting techniques and production of ferrous materials.

Textbooks :

Walter Nicodemi, "Metallurgia", voll 1 e 2, Zanichelli, Bologna, 2003 (prima edizione).

Exam :

Written test at the end of the lectures and several spoken sessions afterwards.

Tutorial Session :

A series of practical lectures will be given. Aside them, an afternoon session of for tutorial will be agreed according to the lecture schedule.
