Students should have acquired the

in electrical establishments; devising and implementing
maintenance plans and required improvement for
electric power equipment.

Fundamentals of energy-handling
electric circuits. Study of the principal components
of electric power systems as individual pieces
of equipment and as parts of a system.
Balanced 3-phase circuits, per unit quantities.
Circle diagrams, control of voltage, and power
flow.
Economics of the operation of power systems. Aspects
of interconnected operation. Transmission losses
and techniques for optimum economic generation.
Industrial power system design considerations:
planning (safety, reliability, simplicity, maintenance,
flexibility, cost), protection (devices, limitations,
requirements, coordination, testing), grounding
(static and lightning protection, earth connections),
power factor control and effects, switching and
voltage transformation, cable construction and
installation, busways.
