Aims :

To provide knowledge oN plants’ technology and machines in the cardboard-making and packaging processes. Students must be able to understand process’ schemes, and using techniques and instruments for process planning and control.

Definition of paper, cardboard and for corrugating board. Italian paper Industry. Characteristics and pastes of the papers for packing, packaging and for corrugating medium. Raw materials. Recycled and virgin fibers. Differentiated collection. Classification CEPI and B.I.R of pulping. Characteristics of recycling fibers, Supplying sources. Contaminants: classification. Nobilitations of recycling fibers: batch and continuous pulpers, high and low consistency, Fractioning of fibers. Deinking by flottation and whitening. Washing. Plant scheme for pulp preparation of recycled papers. Retention aids, antislime, and antifoaming. Main types of cardboard machines.
