Aims :
Aim of the course is to acquire
design foundaments to factories productions.The
student will have a global plastics materials
knowledge and to related properties in order to
planning a selection on the better conversion
type. Finally he must have got technical and economical
evaluations.
Topics :
Polymeric materials.Thermoplastic or thermosetting
polymers. Amorphous or semicrystalline structure.
Molecular weigth. Phase transformations. Thermal,
mechanical and rheological properties. Tests on
polymers. Compounds. Viscosity in shear and in
elongation. Viscoelastic behaviour. Relaxation
time. Main conversion technologies of the plastic
at high pressure: compression molding, transfer
moulding, injection moulding. Close examination
of the technique of injection molding with the
study of manufactured articles and with the planning
of the technology. Simple numerical exercises.
Mass manufactured articles and semi-expansion
parts. Extrusion dies. Extrusion of profiles and
cables. Machineries, control's parameters. Point
of job of the extruder. Production of containers
and of films by extrusion.
