Aims :

The aim of the course is to provide the students with the fundamentals of classical electromagnetism and to prepare them to use the concepts of physics in the framework of their future professional activity. In particular, a fundamental objective consists in the training of the students to use logical forms suited to the critical analysis of the experimental evidences and the related phenomenological description.

Topics :

The electric charge. The Coulomb law of force. The electric field. The Gauss law. The electric dipole. Electrostatic potential and potential energy. Electric conductors in external electric fields. Electric capacity and capacitors. Polarization in the matter. Electric currents and resistance. Electromotive force and circuits. The magnetic force. The magnetic field. Magnetic fields generated by electric currents. The magnetic dipole. Electromagnetic induction. Magnetic properties of matter. The Maxwell’s equations. Introduction to the electromagnetic waves.
