Aims :
The
aim of the course is to provide the students with
the fundamentals of classical electromagnetism
and to prepare them to use the concepts of physics
in the framework of their future professional
activity. In particular, a fundamental objective
consists in the training of the students to use
logical forms suited to the critical analysis
of the experimental evidences and the related
phenomenological description.
Topics :
The electric charge. The Coulomb
law of force. The electric field. The Gauss law.
The electric dipole. Electrostatic potential and
potential energy. Electric conductors in external
electric fields. Electric capacity and capacitors.
Polarization in the matter. Electric currents
and resistance. Electromotive force and circuits.
The magnetic force. The magnetic field. Magnetic
fields generated by electric currents. The magnetic
dipole. Electromagnetic induction. Magnetic properties
of matter. The Maxwell’s equations. Introduction
to the electromagnetic waves.
