Aims :


To know the theoretical foundations of design and simulation of digital and mixed-signal systems. To know the main methodologies of design at system level. To put into practice these methodologies using a simulation tool at system level: SystemC.

 

Topics :

 

-Theoretical basis
Models of computation: Kahn process network [Koc, Kah], dataflow [Lee1, Lee2], randevouz-based systems, discrete-events: RTL [Dev], network modelling, transaction-based Soc platform modelling (TLM) [Cai].
-Interfacing with analog world
Continuous-time systems. Sigma delta converters and modulators[Azi].
-Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMs) Design
Bulk and surface micromachining. Applications.
-Soc Design methodology
“describe and synthesize” [Gaj], “specify-explore-refine” [Gaj], “platform-based desing” [Cha], IP reuse.
-Tools
SystemC [Gro], SystemC-WMS [Orc].
-Case study

Exam :

 

The exam consists in an oral test and in the presentation of a project report. The project report is optional.
