Aims :
To let the students be able to use CAD tools for
the analysis of mechanical systems, in particular
for the study of simple mechanical systems through
numerical simulation or commercial packages.
Topics :
1. INTRODUCTION
Constraints and kinematic pairs. Degrees of freedom.
Mass properties. Equations of dynamics. Transients
and steady state.
2. MECHANICAL MODELS AND SYSTEMS
The power flow in machines. Physical and mathematical
models. Engine and load static characteristics.
Linearization of motion equations. Stability.
3. TOOLS FOR THE ANALYSIS
Kind of available tools (symbolic and numerical
packages, geometric modellers and multibody simulators).
Kinematic and dynamic simulations (direct and
inverse dynamics).
Textbooks :
• R. Ghigliazza, C.U. Galletti.
Meccanica Applicata alle Macchine, UTET,
1986.
• F.C. Moon. Applied Dynamics, with
application to multi-body and mechatronic systems,

Systems, Wiley, 1989.
Exam :
The examination is based on the
evaluation of a sample project developed by the
students.
Tutorial Session :
wed 17:30-18:30, thur 9:00-10:00.
