Aims :
The
aim of the present module is to provide fundamental
information on the main components of the production
systems used in the modern manufacturing industries.
Such information can be used as a guideline in
the design of the production systems.
Topics :
Production and production system
facilities, manufacturing support systems, automation
in production systems.
Manufacturing of discrete parts and production
system, integration, CIM. Production typologies:
job shop, batch, cellular and mass production.
Automation in production system: fixed, programmable
and flexible automation.
Numerical control: fundamentals of NC, computer
numerical control, distributed numerical control,
part programming. Application of NC: machining
centers, turning centers, mill-turn centers, coordinate
measuring machines, other NC applications.
Industrial robots: anatomy and related attributes,
control systems, end effectors, programming, applications.
Material handling: overview of material handling
equipment, considerations in material handling
system design. Material transport system: automated
guided vehicle systems, conveyor systems. Analysis
of material transport systems. Automated storage
systems.
