Aims :

The course is aimed at providing the basic knowledge of the Mechanics of Solids and of the Strength of Materials. The students will learn to determine the static behavior of simple structures, to check the admissibility of an elastic state, and to compute displacements of basic structures.

Topics :

Kinematics of rigid bodies – Static of rigid bodies – Internal forces and moments – Centroid, area, moments of inertia – Kinematics of deformable bodies – Static of deformable bodies – Constitutive relations – The de Saint-Venant problem and the technical theory of beams: Traction, bending, approximate theory of shear, torsion – Yield criteria.
