Aims :
The
course sets out to make able to investigate the
operation and the design of plants for power generation
and the energy conversion. More details are given
on steam power plants, gas turbine, cogeneration
and combined power plants. Particular relevance
is attributed to the basic economic analysis
Topics :
The history of energy conversion,
fuels and renewable energies.
Steam power plants: thermodynamic cycles and study
of the components. Performance improvement and
power control. Design and test.
Steam generators. Historic evolution and study
of the combustion. Gas and steam fluxes. Design
of the components: economizer, evaporator, super-heater
and steam separator. Calculation and design criteria.
Gas turbine Plants. Basic analysis, efficiency
and specific work. Characteristics of the components.
Plants and machines technological evolution: state
of art and future prospects. Pollutant emission
and his control.
Combined cycles and cogeneration. Heat recovery
boilers. Thermodynamic characteristics of the
combined cycles and thermal-electric cogeneration
plants. Basics of economic evaluations.

Exam :
The examination of the course consists
in two tests. A written test containing 2 exercises
with dimensioning of systems and 3 questions on
arguments theoretical or prati to us. To it it
will follow an oral one with argument of the written
one and questions on the topics of the course
For the admission to the oral test it is necessary
the overcoming of the written one at least in
the part of the dimensioning exercises
