Aims
:
The course aims to introduce the students to the
basic concepts of informatics and to its applications,
giving a comprehensive view of the subject as
a well organized scientific discipline. The student
will also acquire methodological and practical
skills.
Topics :
Introduction to informatics: the
concept of algorithm; architecture of data processing
systems; applications of informatics. Computer
architecture. Software. Binary representation
of information. Extensions to the Von Neumann
architecture: CISC and RISC architectures. The
operating system. Archives and databases. Distributed
systems and computer networks. Internet. User
interfaces. Spreadsheets and word-processors.
