Aims :

The aim of this course is to present to the mechanical students a classification of the energy resources and reserves by geopolitical sector and by type of energy: fossil, nuclear and renewable.

Topics :

Energy classification, sources and utilisation. Principal fuels for energy conversion. Italian energetic system, requirements and consumption. Combustion and fuels: fossil fuels, petroleum and petroleum raffination. Nuclear energy: nuclear fission, nuclear fuel, power reactor systems (BWR, PWR, HTR, etc..) Renewable energy: wind energy, the energy of the sea, biogas. Fuel cells: AFC, PAFC, MCFC and SOFC. Fuel cells applications
