Aims :
To
give at the students an exhaustive picture on
the metals corrosion phenomenon by defining the
technical and scientific aspects and to show the
most typical corrosion forms taking in consideration
some practical cases. Furthermore, the students
have to be able to select the suitable materials
in order to use them correctly.
Topics :
Chemical, physical and mechanical
interactions of the materials with the environment.
Economic aspects of the materials deterioration.
Technical and scientific aspects of the corrosion
phenomena. High temperature oxidation and corrosion
by means of electrochemical mechanism.
Typical forms of corrosion: galvanic, pitting
, crevice, intergranular , stress corrosion, etc.
Effect of environment type on the corrosion of
metal structures: atmosphere, fresh waters, sea
water, soil, concrete, artificial environments.
Corrosion inhibitors. Corrosion protection techniques.
Constructive strategies to avoid corrosive phenomena.
The course consists of theoretical lectures, practical
lectures using photographic support and material
samples which were subjected to corrosion phenomena.
Practical laboratory exercises are planned.

Exam :
The oral examination concerns the
topics treated during the lectures. The student
has to be able to explain the origin of practical
corrosion phenomena.
Tutorial Session :
To contact the teacher is necessary.
